1 thought on “A Hard Lesson On Simplifying – ‘Just In Case’ Is Not Always A Good Plan”
I have been anticipating this blog post! We recently started tramping and have also had the same epiphany – be well prepared but don’t take more than is necessary! I daren’t ask the weight of your pack. Well done for making it with all that extra gear!!
Tramping has made me think about what ‘necessary’ is. My baking items is where most of my extras are. Really – how many of practically the same thing does one need. If I kept only what I have used over the past year (or even 2!!), we would literally HALVE our possessions, and with 6 kids and 2 businesses, that’s a lot of stuff! I find that my sticking point is that we rent and have moved many many (!!) times. Each house has required something a little different to make it function, and I have kept all of the things we have bought in case we need them again. The worst bit is, there have been many times when I have given things away, and then needed them. This tramping reminder might have me think again. I love the freedom of tramping – having enough and not too much more. It’s a good mantra to live by.
